Patient in the focus

Letter to EPMA

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Being the Representative of the German Federation of Diabetics in North Rhine-Westfalia, it is my duty to bring you the following message:

The current percentage of Diabetics is already very high in Germany and worldwide; moreover, these numbers are increasing dramatically. It is absolutely clear for us patients, that Diabetes is a severe pathology which we should consider very seriously. Nevertheless, every day the Diabetes-diseased patients go to work like all other non-diseased people and contribute to well-being of the whole country. This belongs to the normal principles of the society that everybody should contribute to the well-being of all of us. Consequently, there is also the logic expectation of Diabetics to be helped in a best way namely in the prevention of both the disease and its secondary complications as well as by optimal treatment. Unfortunately the current diabetes care is far from being good enough: there is a very long list of patients, who were diagnosed by chance and too late. Currently, the Diabetics are treated “across-the-board”, although it becomes absolutely clear that personalised treatment is life-important for Diabetics. This unsatisfactory situation should be dramatically changed in the near future.

The technological progress by predictive and personalised medicine offers good solutions for the improved diabetes care. This should be implemented. We trust in you – the best specialists in the health care. My message to you is the following one: do not hesitate to apply your know-how, in order to improve currently unacceptable conditions in Diabetes care. Do your best, our expectations are high.

Many thanks for your help in advance!
